Class Collision: Fall from Grace was an impulsive buy from Amazon.com recently. Between liking the cover, and the award it had recieved for Reader's Favorite in 2011, I figured I'd give it a shot. $.99 is not a huge risk, you know?

What really drew me to the book was the story of rich man falling into the normal class - or in this case, below. I don't know why, but something about being humbled like that seemed like it would make a good story. Heartwrenching is more like it. David goes through so much in just this one book, it's hard to imagine another full book after this one. At the open of this book you really, really want to hate David. He is arrogant to a fault, and he's just a boy. But as he and his brothers are kidnapped and the events there after, it becomes harder and harder to read. It feels like no matter what, David cannot catch a break.

What I Loved: David finds humility. While it is found in the worst, most horrible ways in some cases, it's still nice for him to be knocked off of his pedistool. Unfortunately, he ends up surrounded by really bad people for many years, but this experience does not make him a worse person. He ends up growing into an honorable, hard working, young adult. He despises violence, and stands up for wrongs if he can. No matter how many blows he takes, he seems to get back up and carry on with life. In the end, the reader really loves David. So when he starts falling for Linda, the sweetness, and innocense of his emotions is very appealing.

Not So Much: The first half of the book was kind of long. There were moments, mostly the orphanage, that seemed like could have been shortened a chapter or two. I had a point where I almost felt done with the book.

In the end, this book was very clean, and honorable. While the book is written for the New Adult era, this book would be just fine to read as a teenager, though I'm not sure the characters would be quite as appealing as something that was written for that age group.

This book (along with the 2nd book "Phoenix Rising" have been among some of my favorite books read. They both will be books I will keep and read again. With living in Western Washington and knowing some of our local history, I loved the way it was brought out in the books!

Yes, I would recommend these books - I have all ready done so to everyone I know. The author done a great job making the characters, the events, the whole book believable, it was hard to put down. they are the type of books that you continue to think of after you finish reading them. I will be watching for more from this author.
This book was so highly recommended that I got it - and enjoyed it thoroughly! Was unaware, however, that you have to get PHOENIX RISING in order to finish the story - which always strikes me as manipulative and is quite frustrating. I have since read PHOENIX RISING and the two books together are fantastic and well worth reading. Good research, excellent character development and a story that really grabs and keeps you.

Highly Recommend both of Annette Mackey's books and look forward to many others from this talented author!
I have always loved historical fiction, but most novels that fall into the category are very predictable; Class Collision is not. From the very beginning I was captured by the protagonist David. In the beginning he was such a brat and so unlikable, but as the story progressed I found myself wanting to read more and more, and enjoying the character. It is a romance, don't worry it's not sickly sweet with love scenes, but it is still very action packed. Revolving around the Great Depression and WWII Class Collision Fall from Grace and Class Collision Phoenix Rising are both great historic novels.

Side Note It really is like one book, but yes you do have to buy both, which is my only criticism.
I will be honest, it was the nice looking eye candy on the front cover that drew me into this book. I am so glad I did. I had a smallest hard time getting into it at the beginning because I thought it was a love story. Besides, I really didn't like this snooty David character. I went back and read the description of the book to see if I had made a mistake. As I started getting deeper into this book I realized that I experiencing what the brothers were because of the great writing. I wanted to cry when they were kidnapped and I felt their pain when they were being abused. I am just a reader but I did get lost on POVs sometimes but I absolutely .loved the heck out of this book. I know it is a great book when I want to cry and my stomach does flip flops just by reading a persons thoughts. I was so excited.to see there was a second book and I downloaded right away.
This Historical Young Adult Fiction story portrays David Bastien's early life. Born into an aristocratic American family in the 1920's, David is a handsome lad who displays an extraordinary mind, an abundant musical talent, and a considerable amount of arrogance. Until the age of ten, David exercises his intellectual and familial power over everyone who crosses his path. His upper-class upbringing comes to a drastic halt when he and his brother are kidnapped and held for ransom. David is never found and presumed dead. David's mental power and inner strength never fail him as he faces the hard life of a penniless, homeless pre-teen in the 1930's. David struggles and claws his way through nearly impossible situations. He holds on to his pride and identity when cruel overseers try to strip them from him. The book closes as young David looks forward to a promising future with his newfound love.
David's story continues in "Class Collision Phoenix Rising".
This epic tale captures the essence of life during the Great Depression in various locations across the United States. The outstanding characterization in this story is reminiscent of beloved Dickens' tales. The historical nuances make it a wonderful read for young people.
